Types of garden lighting
Garden lighting can refer to an array of outdoor lighting solutions, including fire-based sources (such as torches and lamps – we have a number of these fire-based sources listed here on SummerSundays) and electrical sources including lamps and bulbs. At the current time, electrical-based sources of garden lighting remain the most popular. The principal reason for this is convenience and consistency of supply. With the growing environmental movement, there is a growing trend towards the use of solar-powered devices in garden and outdoor lighting; however we are not able to supply these here at SummerSundays. If you are looking for a solar-powered system, you need to consult a specialist firm who will be able to install the proper equipment. There are some small scale outdoor lighting units that have integrated solar panel technology. We are currently looking into which are the most effective and will soon be listing a number along with our more traditional types of garden lighting solutions.
What type of garden lighting should I get?
We provide a range of electrical and gas powered garden lighting solutions. The trade-off is between effect and consistency. Electrical outdoor lighting solutions offer a reliable and constant supply of lighting that can be turned on and off at the flick of a switch. Gas powered solutions are nearly as easy to use, however they have to be lit each time and you do have to make sure you have enough gas on stand-by (having said this on normal usage, the gas lanterns will last a long time and are cheap to run).
The gas lanterns provide a more authentic aesthetic; they sound and look like you would want your garden lights to. Electrical solutions are generally more powerful and will provide a more robustly lit area than gas lanterns will; all you sacrifice is the aesthetic qualities a gas lantern brings.
If you simply want to add a cosy fire effect to your garden and are not looking for a football stadium sized floodlighting system, you may consider looking at fire pits. These can also be used for barbeques, but for outdoor lighting, they can provide a controlled roaring flame that will prove to be a centrepiece when entertaining guests.
If you need any advice in choosing your perfect outdoor lighting solution, please don’t hesitate to contact us, either by telephone or email.
