Portable Barbeques: Types, Pros & Cons

Portable bbqs are becoming increasingly popular in the UK.  Students love nothing better than to finish their exams in the summer months, then take the portable bbq down to a friend’s house or to the local park to grill a few sausages and knock back a few beers.  Portable bbqs are great for camping as well and mean that you don’t have to lug round canisters of gas or electric hobs.

Another usage for portable bbqs is on the beach.  Why bother with cold sandwiches when you can have steak, sausages and grilled pizza bread, fresh off the portable bbq grill?

But many of our customers actually purchase a portable bbq for permanent use as a home barbeque due to some of its advantages over the larger gas barbeques.  They take up less space as an obvious start but they are also much cheaper than their more bulky siblings.

However, if you are entertaining a group or a large number of guests, the portable bbq really won’t do as a home barbeque.  You simply cannot fit quite enough bbq meat onto the bbq grill and the heat doesn’t always apply itself evenly across the entire surface area of the barbeque grill.  For groups of four or more we highly recommend buying something more substantial.

For the finest selection of portable barbeques in the UK, please come and visit us.  For example, take a look at the Urban 550 Firepit BBQ, which is one of our most popular portable barbeque models.  It has a protective spark guard which makes it perfect for use around children, but it also provides atmospheric heat and lighting which means you can also use it as a makeshift patio heater when you aren’t cooking bbq meat on it!  Its thick cast iron bowl means you can put it on you outdoor table in the garden.  This is a great centre of attention!

The Urban 550 is suitable for all solid fuels and it collects its own ash as it burns, meaning you or your posh table don’t have to!  Overall, portable bbqs are great but if you are really looking for cooking speed and efficiency, you should opt for a slightly higher end model.  If you are cooking for small numbers of people, and want to take it on holiday or to the park, the portable bbq is the only option.
