As Summer approaches here in the UK BBQs are coming out in gardens across the country. But do any of us stop and ask the question: ‘What is a BBQ?’ Whether you are abroad or in the UK BBQ, as defined in the Merriam-Webster English Dictionary, means to roast or broil on a rack over steaming hot coals or on a revolving spit before or over a source of heat. But for a UK BBQ, it is even more important to cook your food slowly; this is the very essence of the UK barbeque.  
 
In the UK BBQs have been around since the dawn of time – probably since the stone age (as this is when fire was invented by man). All a UK BBQ is is slow cooking accompanied by low heat. The opposite of the UK barbeque is grilling which essentially means speedy cooking over high heat (the exact opposite).
